Rachel offers piano lessons to children and adults, whether they are just beginning or are more advanced. Her lessons emphasize basic musicianship and aim to develop an understanding of the history and culture of the classical piano repertoire and its performance.
With sensitivity to the needs and interests of the individual student, Rachel selects literature of varied genres to enable each student to grasp the language of harmony, rhythm and musical structure. This careful choice of music also allows her students to build a reliable playing technique. Free of pain and confident in their growing skill, students can interpret expressively the music they study.
Rachel’s approach emphasizes the use of comfortable body movement so that all students may discover their own capacity to practice regularly and enjoyably. She aims to enable her students to play the piano for their own pleasure, as well as to play for others with no sacrifice of their own enjoyment. Even during Covid, lessons can continue safely online.
For students who want to do some performing, opportunities may be provided in a relaxed, supportive setting.
Rachel teaches in her Manhattan Upper West Side studio. She encourages you to e-mail with your questions or to request an appointment.
